Her birthplace was Roswell on March 29, 1985. Gerina Michel Mendoza is her birthname. Gerina Stevenson is the daughter of Mexican parents Rita Stevenson (mother) and Alan Stevenson (father). She is American and has Mexican-American heritage. At a very young age, her desire to be active in sports was strong. Gerina took up golf in her first game at age 15. Gerina graduated from Goddard High School. While in highschool, Gerina won the New Mexico golf state tournament. She also played volleyball at the national level. She was enrolled at the University of Texas, Texas, for the 2003 academic year. As a senior, she took home the top prize in each tournament in which she took part in. In the course of her undergraduate studies, she earned the titles that included Conference USA Female Athlete and Conference USA Individual Player of the Year.
